Ameren Illinois has provided funding for a microgrid laboratory at Illinois State University’s College of Engineering. The lab will support research and training focused on localized power systems that integrate generation, storage, and load management.

The facility addresses coordination needs between distributed energy resources and the larger grid. For operators working with solar, storage, heat pumps, and electric-vehicle infrastructure, such labs can supply data and test environments that align with automation and control systems used in field installations.

The project adds one more university-based site where utilities and equipment providers can evaluate microgrid components under controlled conditions.
